Our Humble Beginnings

Exton Community Baptist Church started as a mission project of East Brandywine Church, with the vision of serving the people of Exton. In 1953, our journey began with a Sunday School class of just 15 individuals, gathering in the welcoming home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mattocks.

Growth and Perseverance

As our numbers grew, so did our need for space. On September 13, 1955, we moved to the West Whiteland Fire Company hall. This was a significant step, as our group had expanded to 48 people. The fire hall, still under construction at the time, presented unique challenges—we met on a dirt floor and had no heat! Yet, these humble conditions fostered unforgettable memories. The fire trucks, hoses, and bells captivated our Sunday School children, and many will never forget the sudden blare of the fire whistle interrupting a communion service.

A Growing Family of Faith

The Reverend Richard Rusbuldt, our founding pastor, tirelessly canvassed the community, inviting people to join our budding family of faith. His dedication led to individuals from various denominations coming together in Jesus Christ. In 1957, Reverend Rusbuldt officially became our full-time pastor, solidifying the foundation of what would become Exton Community Baptist Church.
